Ideas to make box brownies better

Ever had that superb melt in your mouth brownie? You know what we mean. Brownies are all about looking, taste, texture, and feel. Replicating that is easy if you follow our tips given below.

  1. Make it richer: Replace water with milk. Brownies are all about the taste, and replacing plain water with milk will always make the taste richer. You can also work with condensed milk in a little bit of water. It would have the same effect. You can also use buttermilk if you feel milk is too thick for the recipe. Other things that can be added are peanut butter, jam, and Nutella.
  2. Include some coffee: It may seem out of place, but adding a little bit of coffee enhances the flavor. Don’t worry. It will not make the treat taste like a cappuccino.
  3. Canola Oil and Eggs: Eggs are a part of cakes for a reason. They make the cakes fluffier and more prosperous. Canola Oil helps the same way, so do not forget to try them out in the proper proportions.
  4. Improve the texture: Texture is felt when you bite into the box brownie. The way it feels during and after the bite in your mouth will directly affect the experience. The fluffier, softer, and crunchier the brownie is, the better is the devouring experience apart from the taste. Add some chocolate chips or chunks or bits of crunchy nuts in the mix. The soft and rich chocolate chips will add a rich feel and taste. At the same time, the crunchy nuts will add a nice unique texture to the soft brownie. You can use walnuts, pecans, almonds but do ensure they are cut into smaller sizes and not placed as a whole.
  5. Use vanilla extract: Vanilla is another favorite. It adds another layer to the taste and makes it even more appealing. You can also use Peppermint extract for a change. Use it and feel the difference!
  6. Don’t forget salt: Salt is one of the underlying ingredients without which any dish is incomplete, even sweets like brownies. It’s hard to believe, but salt adds a layer of flavor that’s hard to replicate and is evident in the taste if it’s missing in the proper proportions. The flavor will still feel incomplete, no matter how good the result is. It balances the rich and sweet taste of the brownie like no other.
  7. The look and feel: We all know that it should also look presentable if anything tastes well. It makes the dish more appealing and attractive. You can add something’s on top to garnish and enhance the look of the brownie. You can use chopped peppermint candies, cookies, baking chips.

We are just giving you a few ideas that we know work best. You can implement one or a combination of them to get a variety of flavors and textures. You are free to experiment with them and the amount you use. Feel free to customize the above tips to your taste.

The Recipe

Let’s start with a sample recipe to get a fair idea. Prep time is just 7-10 minutes, depending on the amount you prepare.

  1. Add the brownie mix, milk, instant coffee, oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt to a bowl. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly and ensure there are no lumps formed. Let it settle for 1-2 minutes so that ingredients mix well.
  2. Add in the chocolate chips and chunks. You can add pieces of nuts as well. The batter is now ready.
  3. Pour the batter into a greased pan and spread it evenly in the pan so that it can cook evenly throughout.
  4. Place a few more chips, chunks, and nuts on the surface to give it a more appealing look, but don’t overdo it. You do not want too many lumps.
  5. Bake in the oven at 200 degrees Fahrenheit for 40-45 minutes.
  6. Test it with a fork or knife by piercing the surface at a few points. The batter should not stick to the blade. There should be little or no batter residue left on the knife. The brownie must hold its own and not break when you pull out the knife or fork. This is when the brownie is ready. Over time you will also smell the brownie mix and decide if it’s prepared or not.
  7. Please take out the pan and let it cool for around 30 minutes. This will ensure the brownie firms up a bit and does not become brittle. Else it will crumble if you try to cut it. You can now cut the brownie into box brownie size pieces or refrigerate it and cut it later. You can store them in an airtight container for 4-5 days in a refrigerator or up to 2 months in the freezer.
